Job Description

Assistant Harbor Master – Marina Operations

Gibson Island Club, located on the scenic Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Magothy River, is seeking a full-time Assistant Harbor Master to support the year-round operation of its privately managed harbor, docks, and marina. This position reports to the Harbor Master and is expected to provide exceptional service to Yacht Squadron members and their guests while helping ensure safe, efficient, and professional harbor operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol the harbor to ensure safe navigation, compliance with regulations, and protection of club assets
  • Provide tender service for members and guests
  • Assist with dockage assignments, mooring placements, and vessel arrivals/departures
  • Support daily marina operations, including pier and dock maintenance
  • Assist with billing and record-keeping related to dockage and harbor services

Qualifications and Requirements

– Possesses and maintains U.S. Coast Guard license to operate boats of at least 15 tons gross in inland waters, required

– Class D driving license with good driving record, required

– Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a Harbor Master Assistant or in managing a customer service marina operation, preferred

– High School Degree or GED, required

– Bi-annual CPR and basic first aid certification, required

– Customer service centric and provides responsive support to members and guests at the harbor, required

– Managing work of harbor support staff, preferred

– Requires working variable work shifts that fluctuate from season-to-season: day, evening, weekend, and/or holidays

Physical Requirements: This position may be required to lift, move, and/or push objects; will need to climb, stoop, crawl, and kneel at times; incumbent is subject to health and drug testing; will be required to work outside during inclement weather conditions.
