Work Responsibilities

As a Sailmaker, you’ll make and repair sails for sailboats, kiteboards, or other structures that use sails. You’ll typically use a variety of tools to accomplish these tasks including industrial sewing machines, hand tools, and hand sewing. Modern sailmakers also perform the important task of teaching people how to best use, care for, and trim their sails.

On the Job Training

The Marine Trades Industry Partnership is a paid, on-the-job training program for young workers starting their career. The ideal candidate is 18 to 24 with a strong desire to succeed and work around boats and water. Candidates will gain confidence from learning their trade, security from knowing their skill cannot be outsourced, and motivation from excellent pay and upward mobility.
