Work Responsibilities

A Marine Painter prepares metal, wood, and fiberglass surfaces and applies a complete system of specific marine coatings according to processes detailed by the coatings manufacturer. Your typical work process will include making small fiberglass repairs, filling and fairing these repairs with surfacing filler, and sanding these surfaces to the correct texture. Marine painting techniques are very similar to those used in the automobile painting industry and are commonly taught by working under an experienced painter along with professional schooling offered by the paint manufacturers.

On the Job Training

The Marine Trades Industry Partnership is a paid, on-the-job training program for young workers starting their career. The ideal candidate is 18 to 24 with a strong desire to succeed and work around boats and water. Candidates will gain confidence from learning their trade, security from knowing their skill cannot be outsourced, and motivation from excellent pay and upward mobility.
