2025 Annual Report for MTAM

Executive Director’s Report:

MTAM continues to strengthen the foundation of the recreational boating industry through advocacy, workforce development, and member engagement. In 2025, we made meaningful progress in each of these areas.

Our Workforce Development Program remains one of our most important initiatives. Over the last two years, we successfully matched more than 45 interns with marine businesses across the state, helping offset the cost of wages for participating employers while giving new workers valuable, hands-on experience. In addition, we provided funding for 13 employees to receive technical training, raising their skill levels to ensure the viability of their business.

We achieved a significant milestone with the creation of Maryland’s first registered apprenticeship program for Marine Technicians. This program establishes a recognized career path within our industry and formalizes the education and experience needed to sustain a highly skilled workforce for years to come.

MTAM also hosted four well-attended events throughout the year. Each served as an opportunity for social connection, professional networking, industry updates, and collaboration across all segments of the marine trades. These gatherings continue to reinforce the value of MTAM membership and the strength of our community.

On the legislative front, MTAM worked proactively with elected officials and industry partners to defeat legislation that would have required redundant warning labels on all gasoline-powered boats with cabins. This outcome prevented unnecessary costs and confusion for dealers and boaters, while maintaining appropriate safety standards.

We were also proud to introduce the a brand new MTAM Directory, published within our Guide to Boating Services for 2026. This combined resource for members enhances visibility for member businesses and extends our reach across the state, serving both consumers and the broader recreational boating community.

The accomplishments of 2025 reflect the collective strength and engagement of our members. Through shared commitment and collaboration, we continue to advance our mission—to promote, protect, and grow Maryland’s recreational marine industry.

As we look ahead, MTAM remains focused on workforce development, advocacy, and providing value to our members. Together, we are ensuring that Maryland’s boating industry remains strong, innovative, and an essential part of our state’s economy and culture. Read the entire annual report here.
